Statement on our termination with The Vegan Society
We have taken the difficult decision to no longer carry The Vegan Society “Vegan” logo on our products. The Vegan Society was invaluable for certifying our products as vegan, and their values resonated with ours, however we no longer feel we can justify this logo on our packaging, due to a number of factors:
- Less relevance – “Vegan” certification is diluted by self-certified logos, and we find that people do not value The Vegan Society any higher than a self-certified logo.
- “Vegan-washing” – The Vegan Society has been increasingly engaged in promoting non-vegan brands as they make short-term vegan promotions, including the certification of even bottles of water from large American fast-food chains to artificially increase the number of certified vegan products in their product range, even as those fast-food chains do not operate vegan kitchens.
- Misleading focus – Smaller brands who are 100% vegan receive less support from The Vegan Society than larger non-vegan brands with a handful of vegan products.
- Increasing costs – The Vegan Society charges a very high amount for us to include the logo on our product, which can no longer be justified as raw material prices are increasing, and we wish to keep our products at accessible prices.
Our brand values continue to remain the same, and we will continue to produce 100% vegan products using vegan supply chains, however we will no longer be seeking third-party certification from The Vegan Society. We remain firmly committed to our core values, which goes beyond veganism, but we also remain committed to honesty, transparency, truth in marketing, and a fair price to our customers.
The Vegan Society’s Vegan logo will disappear gradually on products in stores and online over the coming months as stocks are replenished.
